The Dragon Fly Studio

ZipZap mobile payments enable Dragon Fly Studio to soar

The Dragon Fly Studio is a small jewellery shop situated in the Western Cape village of McGregor, run by Karien van der Walt, a qualified silversmith. The store offers funky, fun, totally off-the-wall, brass, silver and copper rings, as well as pieces made with precious and semi-precious stones.

Karien realised the need for a point-of-sale solution when potential customers were turned away due to the shop’s lack of payment terminal. “McGregor attracts many day visitors who enjoy browsing through the shops, but most of them don’t carry cash,” she said. “I would occasionally let a customer take the stock and do an EFT later if I had a good feeling about them, but it just became too risky.”

A mobile solution that’s worth its weight in gold

Dragon Fly required a solution that was portable – something that didn’t need a land line or computer in order to function. Karien said that after reading about ZipZap mPOS in the Cape Times, she knew that it would be the perfect solution for her. She contacted the Cape Town office and received excellent service in terms of the set-up, support and training of the product.

Dragon Fly began using ZipZap in no time; finding is extremely easy and effective, their only hindrance being the poor signal in the area.

She added: “ZipZap mPOS is a convenient, mobile option that has enabled us to increase our turnover and better service our customers. I love the fact that there are no monthly rentals, and that if we don’t transact we don’t pay. I’m not quite sure how we ever functioned without it!”
